Critiques CD: Sharon Van Etten | Epic

I am in love. With the voice…the music. Sharon Van Etten is likely to ride some giant waves to further recognition with the release of her excellent second album, aptly titled might I add. Van Etten is blessed with a sultry and sulky voice and carries an acoustic guitar squeezed tightly by her side. She sings mostly about love and loss, and the shitty side of life. This record alternates between angry, hippy folk ballads and fully orchestrated magical pop pieces, brought to a multi-colour spectrum by Philly psych king engineer Brian Mctear (Mazarin, Swearing at Motorists, Capitol Years). November 4th at Belmont.
