Critiques CD: Daniel Isaiah | High Twilight

Local singer/songwriter Daniel Isaiah Schachter’s solo debut, High Twilight, follows suit with the recent influx of indie Americana–folk soloists, not unlike fellow Canadian singer/songwriter Jason Collett, with moody to saccharine melodies over guitars that vary from simple acoustic to twangy country licks paired with saloon-esque piano – classic sounds all too frequently revisited due to their apparent effectiveness. Schachter’s approach to the already over-saturated genre is enjoyable albeit unoriginal, save for the introduction of French lyrics as well as the harpsichord in baroque chanson “J’habite un pays” – making for an ambitious though somewhat untimely debut.
