Gay summer in the city: some queer forecasting from Daniel Baylis

Daniel Baylis, Tourisme Montréal blogger and all-around authority on gay life in the city, dusts off his crystal ball to give NIGHTLIFE an exclusive reading on the summer’s top queer draws.

MEC PLUS ULTRA – The party hosted by Denis Gagnon on June 19 was off the hook. The boys are succeeding in keeping it fresh. Go for a homo hat-trick at three MPUs this summer: July 24, August 7 & 21.

MEOW MIX – Montréal drag king “Dick Is It!” will be making slow love to the audience at everyone’s fave lezziefest on August 1. Other salacious acts include Dead Doll Dancers and members of Dukes of Drag.

MONTRÉAL PRIDE – This edition of Pride will have a global flair as the whole homosexual world will be tuning in to see who will be crowned “International Queer of the Year.” Toss your baton around at the parade. August 10 – 15.

FAGGITY ASS FRIDAY – With event organizer Noisy Nora moving to NYC, will FAF be able to sustain its title as the premiere indie-alt-mixed-queer event in Montréal?  July 30 will be her last hurrah. Don’t miss it. (Second slut-fest option: August 27)

DIVERS/CITÉ – For the last time… It’s not “Pride!” It’s an arts & music festival that celebrates diversity – get it? Highlights: Joey Arias, Sister Sledge & Mado’s Mascara Mayhem.  July 26 – August 1.

PERVERS/CITÉ– From August 5 to 10 you can fight against the corporatization of gay with a summer festival that links social justice, queer communities and radical forms of pride. Showering optional.

MAD MAUS – If you understood the latest Gaga video, then your people are waiting for you at this fashionista event. Two modish options: July 17 (Heroes) & August 7 (Golden Boy).
