NIGHTLIFE.ca is happy to present you the exclusive interview of the talented DJ Darius Syrossian. The man is coming to Montreal at Salon Daomé on December the 7th, giving us the perfect opportunity to discover one of the most demanded DJ of 2012. Here’s the interview and portrait of a true defender of House music.

First of all, could you introduce yourself? What brought you to the world of electronic music? Which artists/styles influenced you?

Hi I’m Darius Syrossian from Leeds in the UK. I have loved electronic music from day 1. I remember being a kid and when my parents would listen to the radio, I would love anything that was made with synths or was more electronic such as human league, Yahoo, Eurythmics, and so on. Then in the early 90's when I moved to UK I went to my first rave and heard house music how it sounds in the context it’s made for and that was it, I was hooked!

When and how did you decide to be a “slave” of these three words: TRUE. HOUSE. MUSIC? Or more precisely, what do you find so special about house music?

Well from the moment I went to my first rave all those years ago, I was absolutely hooked. I spent any money I had on buying music, every last penny and then I gave up everything to work in a record shop, for not a lot of money, but I loved it, playing and talking about music all day.

I have a degree in design but I didn't pursue that, because all I wanted to do was work in my record shop and be involved in music.

You had the chance to sign tracks with very famous labels such as DJ Sneak’s magnetic records and OFF Recordings, how did it happen?

Well I DJ regularly at Sankeys in Manchester, and here I met DJ’s such as Heidi and gave her a demo that led to being on the Jackathon compilation. I also met Richy Ahmed there and that led me to releasing on Hot Creations because he heard my tracks. Also people like DJ Sneak and Andre Crom from OFF Recordings heard my productions and got in touch.

You’ve played at many major Clubs and Festivals all around the world, why did you choose Montreal and the Salon Daomé to perform? Is it your first time here? And what do you expect from Montreal’s crowd?

So many people I know have said that Montreal is one of the best place to play, and the people who told me this know their music. Plus the promoters seem cool; therefore I didn't hesitate to say yes.

Your career is undergoing a major shift this year, what kind of projects are you planning for 2013?

I do have so much on. Firstly a Sankeys world tour is just being finalised, with locations from South America to Australia to North America and Europe, with dates throughout April and May. It’s going to be a lot of travel but I am looking forward to it a lot.

Also I’m doing a sample pack for Loopmasters. I have lots of productions coming out on loads of labels, and I’ll also be in Ibiza again next summer and I am already looking forward to spinning in Sankeys Ibiza.

In January I play at BPM Festival and will also be doing the Miami WMC and Sonar in 2013 also.

It’s full steam ahead really. It’s a lot of work but when you meet people when you’re away on the other side of the world and they tell you how much they love your music, it gives you the energy to strive forward and do more, so I just want to say thanks to everyone who has supported me!

Last but not least! I think everybody in Montreal is wondering about this important question: In the morning, do you prefer tea or coffee?

Haha in all honesty neither! I'm hyper sensitive to caffeine as it makes me mega-hyper, so much so that when a promoter takes me to dinner before a gig, I always order a double espresso at the end of dinner because it gives me a much needed energy kick.

I'm already really energetic in the morning, so having a coffee or tea is not needed, I'm a fresh orange juice kind of guy!

Thanks again Darius for this interview, we will see you at Salon Daomé on December the 7th .

Thank you, looking forward to the gig very much and meeting all the people out there who come to the gig 🙂

Presented in exclusivity by Microzoo, the warm-up will be assured by Nathan Burns. So we suggest you come early next Friday at Daomé to groove on the dancefloor all night long. It should be a night to remember, we promise you ! And what a huge news this morning, the Resident Advisor Top 100 DJs poll of 2012 just came out ! Guess what, Darius Syrossian is #76 !! Bravo !! Here is a sample of Darius’s music to make you wait until Friday. Enjoy !
