Local outfit Code Pie’s new release manages to make the atmospheric pop thing a little more interesting with an orchestral kick. Muffled drums, underwater vocal effects and guitars coated in beach-rock reverb all come into play when just a moment ago you could have sworn you were hearing trumpets and horns in a familiar style for local multi-instrumentalist groups like Bell Orchestre. The moods and sounds do vary track-to-track; from the demure, whispery vocals awash in instrumental ambience found on “Morning After,” to the gambolling sing-along “Operator”‘s synths and bossa nova beat, Love Meets Rage is an eclectic, light-hearted array. April 3rd at Casa del Popolo.
