From the debased at Cinéma l’Amour to the straight-laced at the IMAX Telus, the cinemas of Montréal cover some serious ground. But whether you’re seeing Shrek 3D or taking a class on misogyny in horror film, whether you’re researching documentary as a tool for political action or laughing until you cry at how damn funny Zach Galifianakis looks doing anything, there’s a movie theatre that’s got your interests in mind.
Cinema Du Parc | 3575, du Parc
With arthouse appeal, yet lacking few (if any) of the must-see Academy Award nominees and other big-name titles, this is almost certainly Montreal’s friendliest and most appealingly democratic movie theatre. From international film festivals to Hollywood blockbusters, Cinema du Parc has one of the best selections around. At $11 it’s not a whole lot cheaper than the multiplexes on Saint-Catherine, but with a “Young Adult” ticket that has a generous 13-25 age bracket priced at only $8, the wide selection and independent spirit of the theatre aren’t its only draws.
