Montréal two-piece Blue Hawaii are one of the city’s best kept musical secret treasure chests.

Rising out of a fervent, fertile, and heavily independent scene centered around the home to superstars past, present, and future, the almighty Arbutus Records (Grimes, Braids, Sean Nicholas Savage, etc..) the band encompass the originality and boldness that surrounds the label’s roster. It’s only every couple of years that we’re treated to slices of gooey pop music courtesy of the pair – Raphaelle Standell-Preston (also the lead singer in Braids) and Agor (aka Alexander Cowan) – while sadly live events are few and far between given Raph’s busy day job of touring the globe.

2010 saw the first recorded out put for the band, the lovely eight track «Blooming Summer» EP, a bubbly warm weather ode to love and l’été built around honeyed female vocals, keyboards, guitars, and electronic drums.

Now, welcome to «Untogether» just released but markedly different than its predecessor. While the instrumentation has stayed the same, the sounds inside have shifted to a stark, minimal, and cool electronic music credo that highlight a haunting juxtaposition with the EP. The songs are direct and to the point, taking no prisoners, and showcase the immense talents of the two principals and their abilities to juggle differing musical mediums over the course of Blue Hawaii’s discography.

Catch them now before they disappear into their creative vortex, not to re-emerge for another three years!
