Take A Leap Into Woods’ Psychedelic Pool of Sound
Crédit: Woods saw the light of day in Brooklyn, New York, in the bedroom of Jeremy Earl back in 2005, an outlet for his acoustic ditties and ghostly falsetto voice that peppers all of their six full-length albums. While their first two records acted essentially as solo platforms for Earl, the band we see and hear today solidified around the release of their excellent Songs of Shame in 2009. Their boss new release entitled Bend Beyond came to us this past September, and they're now coming for a show in Montreal on July 16th.

Woods is a quartet composed of singer-guitarist Jeremy Earl, tape-effects technician G. Lucas Crane, bassist Kevin Morby, and multi-instrumentalist Jarvis Taveniere, answering to no one but themselves. This is the way it has always been. This is the way it will always be.

Over the span of their near-decade long career, they have spawned a shit-hot record label that is idolized by many, Woodsist, home to among others themselves, Real Estate, The Babies, White Fence, Moon Duo, Kurt Vile, The Fresh and Onlys, and Wavves. On top of this, they birthed and curate the deliciously cool annual bi-coastal Woodsist Festival, where similarly-minded pals and gals strum along on outdoor stages to the birds, bees, and bongs. Camping is included.

Here was born their signature psychedelic pop meets crazy folk sounds meets experimental sonic collages meets epic guitar solos, gorgeously melodic nuggets dipped in a sauce of the weird and wild, their songs at once familiar, at once coming to us from another sound galaxy. Their boss new release entitled Bend Beyond came to us this past September, further evidence of their compositional prowess and ability to somehow make their music even catchier, prettier, and skewed.
