Critiques CD: Tycho | Dive

Tycho plunges whole-heartedly into a nostalgic melancholy optimism reminiscent of Boards Of Canada or Air. Time phases in and out, folding in upon itself, perfectly capturing the experience of the ecstatic comedown as the sun rises post-party. Tranquil but not bland, Dive washes over you in soothing synthetic waves built of tranquil melodies, gentle beats, evocative guitars and tinkling flourishes. On “Melanine”, the guitar adds an almost folk flourish to the retro synths dancing in outer space, bringing the ambient techno down to earth. Detailed production, combined with the prettiness of the synths and acoustic guitar, make this chill out music worth getting excited about. July 11th at Sala Rossa.
