Take Off Your Clothes at Place des Arts: Don’t get naked, swap clothing!

It’s looking more and more like “peer-to-peer” and “sharing” will be the buzz words of our decade. But far beyond a point of controversy and contention, Montréal’s Take Off Your Clothes, garment swapping event is certainly the most economical, eco-friendly, and simply entertaining means of stripping down your wardrobe and doing a service to the community.

This Saturday and Sunday, inside the Grand Foyer de la Place Des Arts, Montréal’s own S.W.A.P. Team heads one of the world’s largest local clothing swaps. Now proudly facilitating chapters across Canada and the U.S. alongside their partners Goodwill (Renaissance) and Salvation Army, the team is looking to set records for the number of garments traded and donated back at home. Already an online fad, swapping has obvious benefits for charities and the environment. Plus, you could end up with a pretty sweet sweatshirt without emptying up your wallet.

Battling the powers of over-consumption this weekend will also provide you with a fair amount of entertainment courtesy of local performers Ulka Mohanty, Clint Lewis, Olivier Martineau, Street Hearts, and Rice and Barley, as well as Boston’s own DJ The Wig. Just make sure you’re not unloading your entire wardrobe at the Place Des Arts, as there’s a 10-article limit. Nevertheless, with a total of 12,000 pieces of clothing swapped during last year’s initiative, they’ll need each and every peer to be at their ‘sharing-is-caring,’ hippy best to break the record. So here’s to sharing!
