Critiques CD: Pantha du Prince | XI Versions of Black Noise

Black Noise was a thing of beauty, a diamond of an album with no rough edges, so it’s hard to imagine that reshaping it could really add to its brilliance in any way. But the artists remixing a slim selection of songs from the album almost universally do. Moritz Von Oswald, Die Vogel and Animal Collective find new facets to “Welt Am Draht,” while Four Tet, Carsten Jost, Walls and Efdemin rework “Stick to My Side.” Though irrefutably still PdP, each reworked track is unique enough that XI makes for edifying listening as an album and is a thing of beauty in and of itself.
