Critiques CD: Jacques Greene | The Look

This Montreal mystery man doesn’t want to be associated with his former musical incarnations and aliases, which I wholeheartedly get. But the temptation to do so is strong, if only to justify why this first EP is so damn glorious. Channeling his love for Chicago house, ‘90s UK garage and delectably dance-ready R&B, “Greene” boasts effortless grooves, sputtering synth rhythms, subversively choppy vocal samples and deceptively simple hooks. The lush drum machine magic gets underway with “The Look”, a sophisticated mating call for the dancefloor with its jittery vocal bites and quivering basslines. A very savvy first effort from the Peter Parker of house.
