Pursuit of excellence: l'Ordre des architectes du Québec announces 2011 awards


After three days of analysis and deliberation, l’Ordre des architectes du Québec (OAQ) announced the winners of the 26th annual Awards of Excellence in Architecture on January 13th at the Musée de la civilisation in Quebec City. 

Members of the jury, represented by architect and jury chair Lise Anne Couture of New York’s Asymptote Architecture firm, chose from 131 projects entered in some 20 categories. Analyzing the balance and integrity of the various elements of architectural quality and sustainability in their broadest sense, the jury considered only examples completed in the last two years.

As a follow-up to these awards, the public is invited to cast a vote at pea-oaq.com until May 31st for their favourite project among the jury selections. The voice of the people will determine the architect and client most deserving of the Loto-Québec People’s Choice Award, to be announced this June. 

With about half of the entries coming from Montreal, here are a few local highlights:
