Critiques CD: Grand Lake | Blood Sea Dream

While the fruits of Grand Lake can be enjoyed now with this debut record, the seeds of the band date far back to the mid-nineties when founders Caleb Nichols and Jameson Swanagon’s musical friendship was conceived when the pair were teens. While Nichols held court in indie up-and-comers Port O’Brien and Swanagon honed his chops in Boston’s avant-garde scene, Grand Lake create a pop music geyser that shoots out far and wide, keeping you guessing from one song to the next. Equally at home are quiet, dark and textured electronics as are harder art-rock driven bangs and more experimental excursions into sound.
