Weird Old Amerika: for the sake of the song

Cagibi’s For The Sake Of The Song music show will be presenting Weird Old Amerika, yet another thematic soirée for the benefit of the Mile End Mission this Sunday, July 18th.

The night will be a tribute to Harry Smith’s Anthology of American Folk Music (a compilation of music that helped kick-start the post-war folk revival) and Bob Dylan & Band’s Basement Tapes, which also reaches far back into folk roots.

In keeping with the vibe of the music to be covered, the event will be candle-lit and accoustic. Musicians set to perform include Shaun Weadick, No Family, Carlo Spidla, Richard Lahmy, Patrick Hutchinson, Will Austin, John Kerkhoven, Heather Eaton, Go Down Old Hannah and Allan Lento.

If you love Le Cagibi’s quiet and atmospheric setting, you’ll surely be a fan of Weird Old Amerika. The night will be filled with timeless, touching and comical songs – some ancient and others feeling rather modern. Bohemian Harry Smith will watch over all those in attendance with his usual collector/filmmaker/occultist spirit.

If you like to feel cozy, sip good tea and listen to folk music – this is the night for you.
