Critiques CD: Kavinsky | Nightcall

It pains me to admit it, but I’m more compelled by the comic book tale of Kavinsky and its accompanying illustrated artwork than by this guy’s musical output. Still, this third EP by the “reincarnated French zombie” actually offers up a brilliant slice of pulsating synth melancholy care of the titular track, a wistful duet with breathy, vocoded lyrics provided by Kavinsky and his Brazilian lady friend, CSS’ Lovefoxxx. The Dustin N’Guyen remix picks up the pace, taking a song perfectly suited for 80’s film scoring and tweaking it for dark dancefloor appeal. Now enough with the glossy EP nibbles; we’re ready for an album’s worthy of moody electro grooves.
