Critiques CD: Little Boots | Hands

Say hello to Kylie, with major indie cred. The measure of great pop is whether it gets “Stuck on Repeat”, as Violet Hesketh puts it. The British popstress’s futuristic house hooks make the grade with markedly radio-ready appeal. Her unrelenting love affair with pulsating synths serves as a nice counterpart to the generic quality of her voice. “Stuck” is the standout track – a holy communion of slickly layered, sweeping sonorities produced by Hot Chip’s Goddard. Gaga-like moments are peppered throughout, as on the upbeat electropop tune “New in Town” – and a music video with Hesketh as posh dumpster princess getting down with the homeless. The battle is on.
