Critiques CD: Growing | Pumps

Growling and sputtering electro noise, Growing run roughshod over the dance clones with their industrial strength Pumps (they will not be assimilated, not easily at least). Dirtier (and sexier) than Warped glitchiness, this is some (deliciously) nasty ass weirdness. It sounds like Throbbing Gristle crashing a rave, or a warehouse party overheard by an android with a few screws loose and wires crossed. Dancier than Growing’s usual fare – or at least referencing dance conventions – Pumps isn’t for everyone but, for those of us with a penchant for noise and a fondness for the muffl ed echoes of the never-ending party, it’s brilliant. April 10th at Casa del Popolo.
