Chuck Hughes: wearing his food on his sleeve

Chuck Hughes is what you’d call a rocker in the kitchen, with food literally tattooed on his body. So it’s no surprise that when it comes to hanging out in the city, restaurants and markets are on top of the list. To see the cook in action in his Montreal restaurant, watch his new show Chuck’s Day Off on the Food Network, or just pay him a visit at le Garde Manger.

1 New Dynasty Restaurant | 1110, Clark
In Chinatown, it’s my favourite restaurant and I’ve been going there since I started working in restaurants, about 12 years ago. It’s open late, so it’s a great after service hang-out for cooks… it’s where I go at least once a week.

2 Lachine Canal
This is where I run almost every day in the summer. It’s just a great place to exercise on the waterfront or go do some shopping at the Atwater market.

3 Adonis Supermarket | 9590, L’Acadie
This place is the ultimate in freshness. Local farmers’ markets are great in Montreal, but if you want exotic or just great quality products, visit the mixed nut counter or pastry section.

4 The Main | 3864, St-Laurent
This is a place where people gather after a long night of drinking a deli-style diner that stays open until 4am.  I don’t hang out there so much anymore, but I go at least every two weeks to pick up The Main special. Great staff, and good cakes too!

5 Home
Whenever I’m not at work all I want to do is chill.  I’m running around all the time and my schedule is really all over the place with restaurants the work never stops.
